When You’re Closer Than You Think
There are moments when obedience feels quiet and unrewarded. You are still showing up, still praying, still doing the next right thing, yet nothing seems to be opening.
That is often the moment we assume nothing is happening.
Scripture reminds us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). Not if we strive harder. Not if we force clarity. If we do not give up.
Many people walk away not because they stop believing in God, but because they stop believing that staying faithful still matters when results are delayed. Quiet seasons test whether we trust God’s promises, or only His immediacy.
God sees every act of obedience. Even when He feels silent, He is still attentive. “You will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21). Sometimes that voice does not shout. Sometimes it steadies. That steady guidance is what keeps you moving forward, even when you cannot tell what God is doing yet.
Sometimes breakthrough is slow, and God is building something in you while you wait. Sometimes it is sudden, like a wall that finally cracks after you have pushed against it for what feels like forever. You do not always know which one you are in. You just know you are tired and quitting feels tempting. But this may be the moment right before the shift. Keep showing up. Keep walking. Keep your hands steady to what God put in front of you.
If you feel worn down, that does not mean you are off course. It may mean you are closer than you realize. Do not confuse silence with absence, or delay with denial. Keep doing what is in front of you today. Keep listening. Keep walking. God’s plans often make sense only once you reach the other side.
Reflection
Where am I tempted to quit simply because nothing feels different yet?
What does obedience look like for me right now, without certainty?
Where have I seen God sustain me, even when I did not have answers?
Prayer
God, when the waiting feels heavy, help me remember that You are still at work. Strengthen me to keep going when I cannot see the outcome. Teach me to trust Your promises more than my timing. Amen.
