The Freedom Found in Letting Go
There are moments when growth does not ask us to try harder or push forward.
It asks us to release what no longer belongs.
As we close the door on 2025 and begin opening ourselves to new possibilities in 2026, it becomes clear that not everything can come with us. Some habits once kept us steady. Some patterns once helped us survive. Some versions of ourselves made sense for the season we were in. Letting go of them does not mean they were wrong. It means they have completed their purpose.
Scripture reminds us, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing.” God speaks these words not to erase our history, but to guide our direction. What He is doing next often requires room. That room is created when we release what no longer fits.
We often resist letting go because the space it creates feels uncomfortable. Empty space can feel like loss or uncertainty. When God closes a door, it is not to take something from you. It is to make sure what comes next has room to grow.
Becoming is not about erasing who you were. It is about honoring what carried you through past seasons, then setting it down with gratitude. Growth requires discernment. What once sustained you may no longer support where God is leading you now. Carrying it forward would only weigh you down.
As you intentionally close the door on this year, consider what God may be inviting you to release. Not in regret. Not in shame. But in trust. Trust God in the letting go, believing He has something better waiting for you.
Closing a door is not failure. It is freedom.
Reflection & Journaling
What am I afraid will happen if I let this go?
What have I been tolerating that God is asking me to release?
What would peace look like in 2026 if I stop picking this back up?
Quiet Prayer
Lord, as I close the door on 2025, help me leave behind what I was never meant to carry into 2026. Show me what needs to end and help me trust you with the space it creates. I surrender the past to You, and I step into what is next with faith, not fear. Amen.
